Furthermore, studies are projecting a lack of skilled labour in Canada over the next 5 – 15 years.

Speaker Biographies:


Lynn Stoudt CMC, CHRP, Principal at Mercer

Lynn Stoudt is a Principal in Mercer’s Human Capital practice.  She has over 20 years of experience in human resources management and consulting.  She assists organizations in a wide variety of sectors in identifying, developing and implementing solutions related to organization talent management, culture and performance, as well as the impact of organizational change. Her background includes strategic human resource planning, competency based performance management, compensation policies, and the design, implementation and review of salary structures including short-term incentive programs.

Prior to joining Mercer in 2001, Lynn worked with an international organizational development and assessment firm where she served as project manager for the outsourced recruitment, assessment and selection process for several highly specialized positions within a transportation agency.  She also spent several years with another major management consulting firm, practicing in the areas of competency based recruitment and performance management programs, career development and succession planning, human resource planning and business change implementation.

Anil Verma, Professor at the University of Toronto

Dr. Anil Verma is Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at the University of Toronto where he holds a joint appointment at the Rotman School of Management and the Centre for Industrial Relations & Human Resources as Interim Director. He earned a Ph.D. from the Sloan School of Management, MIT; an MBA from University of Saskatchewan; and, a B.Tech. (Elec. Engg.) from IIT, Kanpur (India).

His primary research interests are in the area of management responses to unionization, participative forms of work organization, wage and employment outcomes, and the contribution of workplace innovations to organizational effectiveness and performance.

He has served as President of the Canadian Industrial Relations Association and on the Executive Board of the International Industrial Relations Association, Geneva. He serves as a member of the Advisory Committee on Labour and Income Statistics at Statistics Canada and as a member of the Board of Directors of COSTI Immigration Services, the largest such non-profit agency in Canada. Professor Verma consults with a variety of businesses, unions, governments and international agencies.

He has co-edited several books including: Unions in the 21st Century: An International Perspective (London: Palgrave Macmillan, 2004); Restructuring Work and the Life Course (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2001); Contract and Commitment: Employment Relations in the New Economy (Kingston, ON: IRC Press, 1999); Regionalization and Labour Market Interdependence in East and South-East Asia (London: Macmillan, 1997). He has published many articles in research journals and edited books. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Industrial Relations (Australia).
